I said going into the draft that we were thin at receiver. My reasoning was/is that Mann and Williams are both coming off injuries and we have no idea how they will be. Jenkins was a question mark at best. And then no one. Boldin is a one-year deal. I am glad we drafted Patton, but this really shows us how vulnerable a team can be.

One thing this could complicate is Crab's contract talks. Are we going to low-ball him because we won't know how he is going to come back? Is he going to want more in order to hedge against injury? He didn't like his rookie deal. And make no mistake, we really need him. Boldin is older and his contract is up after this year. Ditto Manningham. We know all too well how hard it is to find a #1 receiver in this league, especially if you are drafting late in the 1st round.

GT, I think what we will see as far as changes to the offense go is more to Vernon. If there is anything to try to see as positive is that it happened now and not right before the season starts. Kaep will have time to work with the other receivers before TC, etc. And I am sure it will prove to have been very helpful that he lived and worked with Jenkins and Lockette in the off season for a few months.

Well hopefully someone will step up, but perhaps the injury will work to our advantage in terms of the contract. If he doesn't play much (or at all) in 2013, then he won't have big numbers to point to in order to price himself out of SF. We may be able to pay him a reasonable amount, and keep him as our #1 guy so he can get healthy and continue to develope with Kaep.
