Kevin, I guess it all comes down to how you define "veteran." NFL types tend to call anybody who is not a rookie a veteran. I have always found that a but too soon. The definition, when not speaking of the military, is "a person of long experience usually in some occupation or skill (as politics or the arts)." So I feel like players don't become veterans until they are in their 3rd year. Therefore, when I talk about a veteran center or veteran receiver or whatever, I feel like he has to have at least a full year at the position under his belt, not spot duty with a handful of games here and a handful there. (He was a tackle in college, wasn't he?) So if he plays center for us for a year, and adding in the others, then I will consider him a veteran at the position.
