I can’t believe the Warriors lost that game last night. I watched the first three quarters and thought for sure they were going to win this one. Taking game one in San Antonio would have been a great start to the series.

Now this gives the Spurs a morale boost and the psychological edge and to lose by one basket in double overtime will have the opposite effect on Golden State. The Spurs were not necessarily the better team last night but they’ve been here before. Four championships. They know how to maintain poise in the fourth quarter which is how Golden State allowed themselves to lose. They got schooled by a more experienced, but possibly lesser team.

Now they have to win game 2 to get the split in San Antonio. Maybe momentum shifts to San Antonio but it’s possible that the Warriors make the right adjustments and learn to better protect a lead in the fourth quarter. They definitely play hot and are able to leap ahead in the score but San Antonio always keeps it cool and consistent. San Antonio will also make adjustments and try not to allow Golden State to play so streaky.

So in game two the Warriors have to keep doing what they did in game one, play on fire and get a good lead going into the fourth quarter. But they have to protect that lead. They are the younger team and in this series, same as last year, the older Spur team was known to wear down in the fourth quarter, especially late in the playoffs.

Game One showed that the Warriors can beat the Spurs. It also showed that the Spurs are a wily veteran team who know how to handle a younger, less experienced team. The Spurs coaching staff will be watching tape of the first three quarters to prevent the Warriors from streaking ahead. The Warriors will be watching tape of the fourth quarter to prevent the Spurs from shutting them down. We know how athletic the Warrior's players are on the court but now we'll see how smart the coaching staff is between games. We know the Spurs are an aging team but we also know what a crafty bugger Popovich is. These guys have been cheating the aging process for years.

Game two should be interesting.
