Rob, sorry if I mis-attributed the comment to you. I'm pretty sure you will be right if Manningham is healthy. I just have my doubts about that considering the team made pretty clear they were going to cut him if he didn't re-structure. That's my concern there. In most cases with those injuries it takes a year to get back to normal psychologically, too. As to playing a rookie as the #3 (or whatever), I just feel let the chips fall where they may. I have 0 qualms about rookie's having success at any position. There have been too many success stories. And rookies go through growing pains. But I'd much rather have Marques Colston as a rookie than Kyle Williams (whom I like) as a veteran. Or T.Y. Hilton, another Day 3 pick. And of course there are plenty of D1 and D2 receivers who were successful right away. But it's a balancing act. How much do you play the young receiver so he can get the experience without costing the team? That's where I trust H. For the first time since the glory days I trust the coach to make good decisions on whom to keep and whom to play and the GM to draft well and sign good FAs. It's a good but weird feeling, it's been so long.
