Our Recevers.

I expect Crabtree and Boldin to be our starters. The rest is all just so much clutter.

But there is, for me, an interesting bit of clutter in there.

The A.J. Jenkins conundrum. First round draft choice. He played in three regular season games, and the playoffs. Caught no passes. But here's the thing... he was only targeted once. Didn't catch the pass. We all took note of that. But we've been ignoring the fact that he was only targeted that one time.

I watched him run his routes in those three games. He was wide open quite a few times in each of those games. But except for that one time, Kaepernick didn't even consider throwing the ball to him.

To me that sounds like an old fashioned football coach (and Harbaugh is nothing if not an old fashioned football coach) saying I'll put the rookie out there to run routes, to be a diversion, to fill a spot, because we're running out of receivers... but he's not to be thrown to.

That was a basic principle for coaches in the old days. You don't give rookies the opportunity to ruin it for everyone else.

Heck, LaMichael James, a whole lot more high profile than Jenkins, was also shelved until injuries to the other running backs forced Harbaugh's hand.

So here's the thing... If Patton gets playing time early in the season then we can get to work forgetting Jenkins' name. Taking him in the first round was a huge mistake and Jenkins is probably condemned to exist at the bottom of the rotation until he's cut.

But if Jenkins was held out simply because he was a rookie... expect to see Patton languishing on the sidelines throughout his rookie season.
