Rob, I don't know that I agree with Win about Crabtree leaving (though it is possible), but Manningham won't be able to practice until TC, and if you read between the lines on what Kap said about Jenkings, well, he was underwhelmed. Add to that the fact that places gave Patton a (at worst) 2nd round grade or higher, and you have a guy who will compete for playing time. He is also really well known for being a very polished route runner. That is a big issue with Jenkins and others. Williams is also a question mark with his injury, and Lockette is very fast but still a project. Then there is the PS factor. Lockette is not going to get poached, so if it comes to one or the other Patton will make the team over him. I went back and looked at how Jenkins did against better competition. He did okay but nothing special (and disappeared against Wisconsin). Patton, on the other hand, exploded against Texas A & M (21 catches, 281 yards), and in one of their losses he still came up big, over 100 yards receiving. Jenkins was kind of a head scratcher pick at the time. Patton looks to be a steal. If the scouting report I posted is accurate, that he is a legitimate starting #2, that puts him ahead of Williams, also. I mean, let's be real about our receivers. Boldin and Crabtree are both legitimate #1s. Manningham before he got healthy was a borderline #2, Williams is a #3, Jenkins was a #5 (he didn't even suit up most games), and Lockette was a PS guy. Somehow, I think Patton can beat out two of those guys.
