I like the Harbaugh's analogy about Daniels being the 'Swiss army knife' sort of player. On paper, probably the least likely player for an obvious position, given his physical stature and stats. But quite possibly, he could end up being more useful and longer serving than some other higher rated picks when all is said and done. And for where he was taken, a totally no-lose indulgence.

Over the years, many teams have had smallish, unprepossessing players who can fit in well at various  offense/defense/special teams roles. Versatility when necessary according to team demands at different parts of a season. Even just within specific games. From Harbaugh's comments, he obviously was looking outside the measurable box at intangibles, learning capacity and athletic potential. Rather than use the very late pick on a clone-type body and duplicate types they already have he was willing to explore a different avenue. At the least Daniels could always be deployed as an emergency/depth quarterback while being used on special teams or in the backfield with certain packages or 'gadget' plays. A few plays here, a couple there and he can find a niche if he is close to what Harbaugh optimistically hopes for.
