Boy, I can't stand this draft setup. Weekday east-coast prime time? One round only? The more fatigued and harried the brain trusts in the war rooms are, the more likely we see some strange things happen. The really disciplined and focussed teams can more easily capitalize on bad judgment by teams that get frazzled and disjointed. Now they all can rest, reset and stick to their strategy. I hope the TV ratings tank and they just go back to weekend multi-round marathons. I didn't get home till almost an hour had gone by and tomorrow I'll miss close to three hours. And besides, it really isn't very good TV entertainment anyways for anyone not seriously into the mechanics of team construction.

No problems with the Niner decisions. Reid probably would have been gone at 31 and they obviously had him in their sights. Maybe they could have rolled the dice, but gaining thirteen first round spots for a third round pick looks like a fair deal. A position of need and it looks like they didn't want to get too cute about going after a sleeper or a lesser prospect at the position later on. A lot of quality players out there for round two. I'd go with Ertz next, then address the defensive line. The two tight end passing option was a real plus with Walker and it would be nice to keep that dynamic a big part of the mix.

Also we have to keep an eye on the other elite teams. Especially the NFC. I fear a Saints resurgence, and Atlanta is methodically moving forward. New York and Green Bay will also be more serious threats. A dark horse might be the Rams if they have a quality draft. And Seattle already has upgraded via trades. Even Arizona will be better. The Niners have to not only be solid, but superior the rest of the draft. And don't overlook the Bears. Trestman will surprise those of you who haven't been paying attention. I've watched him carefully the last five years and I'd be shocked if he doesn't revitalize the Bears in the next couple of years.
