At the moment, 15 of the 53 players on the Oakland Raiders roster at the beginning of last year are still on the team. 15.

They are carrying 50 million dollars in "dead money" against the salary cap this season.

Should they sign all 7 of their draft choices... they still won't have 53 players under contract on the team.

The notion that they would use the #3 pick to get an interior D-Lineman is, to me, absurd. They need bodies. They need players. Lot's of players. They need a foundation.

I could see using the #3 pick if there was a Montana, or a Marino, or an Elway sitting there waiting to be plucked. But there isn't. Not this year.

I think the Raiders have to move heaven and earth to move down in this draft in order to pick up multiple players in the mid and late rounds. Even if the deal they get seems like highway robbery to most of their fans.

Conversely, the San Francisco 49ers have a great foundation. And 13 picks in the draft. 10 of which can be used in trade.

The Niners can field a legitimate Super-bowl contender in 2013 with the players we have under contract, today.

If it makes sense for the Raiders to trade down, it only makes sense for the Niners to do all they can to trade up.

I do not think the Niners can get all the way up to the Raider's number three pick. But trading UP! is my word for the day. Even if it costs us all ten of our trade-able picks. I don't want to see the Niners using anything on day three but their untrade-able compensation picks.
