Howdy folks!

Draft day(s) is/are almost here! Just doesn't quite have the same ring as the epic old-fashioned Draft ... but I'll learn to live with it!

Kevin!

LOL! I will try to find something for us to fight about. ;-)

There are a couple of Longhorns I like in the upcoming draft, but not with quite the same intensity as in previous years. (Such as it is, being a current sign of the times at Texas ...)

That said, I'd be happy with Kenny Vaccaro -- he's a playmaker at safety, and is very consistent. He's also a physical presence. He's another great DB in the tradition of Texas great DB's. (No team has put more CB's and Safeties into the NFL than Texas over the past decade). That said, I don't like him as much as I liked Michael Huff or Michael Griffin, but he is a very solid player.

Marquise Goodwin is one of the fastest ATHLETES in the country, period. Texas never really used him very well, but he could fill a nice situational role.

re: Zach Ertz

I've convinced myself that the 49'ers are taking Zach Ertz with the 1st pick in the draft, unless they end up trading up for one of the top DL anyway.

I have this theory (maybe wishful thinking): I think Harbaugh is a little irritated that the team passed on Coby Fleener last year and instead took AJ Jenkins. Now, it's too early to call AJ a bust ... but I don't have high hopes that he'll be a superstar, to say the least. In my theory, Harbaugh wanted Fleener but Baalke overruled him.

Now, one year later, Zach Ertz is sitting there on the board, AND you were overruled on Fleener the year before, AND the first round pick Jenkins has yet to contribute at WR, AND you just lost Delanie Walker ...

Call it a hunch, call it a theory, but I really think Harbaugh wants Zach Ertz.

Of course I want to bolder the defensive line rotation with this draft, but I also want to be bold. I've already talked about drafting Marcus Lattimore and giving him a redshirt year with one of the 3rd rounders ... I'm also willing to take a flier on the Honey badger with a 3rd rounder ...

... but another player I'm convinced myself the 49e'rs absolutely need to make a play for is the British Olympian Lawrence Okoye. I know, I know, he's never played football, and I'm very much a "what has he done on the field against top competition" kind of draft analyst ... but at the same time, and maybe this is become I'm head over heels in love with WIN, but there is something special about Okoye, and he could probably be picked up in the 5th or 6th round. He is an absolute beast of an athlete, and thinking about what our coaching staff could do with him, and what he might be able to add into a rotation ... I'm intrigued, to say the least.
