Howdy folks!

Long time no post!

It has been an amazing off-season so far!

Let's get right down to it then:

1) COLT MCCOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In case anyone has a case of amnesia, or forgot the three or four dissertations I wrote about McCoy several years ago, it's safe to say that I am *INCREDIBLY HAPPY* with this move! The Cleveland Browns are just about the worst run organization in sports. Nobody could have reasonably expected McCoy to perform well in that disaster of an organization -- and then, humorously, they give up on him after only one year of starting, spend a first rounder on Brandon Weeden (who is older than McCoy), and then are ready to give up on Brandon Weeden after one year ... right. The Browns are terrible.

McCoy is far too classy a guy to point fingers at anybody else, so you'll never hear him badmouth the organization. But this is a team that put him back on the field AFTER HE WAS KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS BY A VICIOUS CHEAP SHOT FROM JAMES HARRISON. That's right. They put him back on the field, two plays AFTER BEING KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS.

That, in a nutshell, is the Cleveland Browns.

What you'll get from Colt McCoy is a team-oriented player, whose very smart, dedicated, and deceptively athletic. He does not have great arm strength, but he does throw a very accurate and catchable ball, and he can move around to extend plays. He will fit in very well with the 49ers, will never be a distraction, and will flourish under the coaching of Jim Harbaugh.

How good is Colt McCoy? I would take him over any QB in the upcoming draft. Yep. I'd take him over any one of them.

2) Anquan Boldin

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!!!!!! What an incredible pick-up. Boldin is everything you want in a WR. Sure-handed, tough as nails, big, physical, and a team player. Holy smokes. What a perfect fit. The Ravens *DO NOT* win the Super Bowl without Boldin last year. (Hell, the Ravens wouldn't have gotten past the Broncos without Boldin).

Boldin and Crabtree? With Kap rifling uranium-depleted rounds through the secondary? HOLY SMOKES!

3) Glenn Dorsey

Low Risk Potential High Reward! Another perfect pick-up! We all know Dorsey has serious talent -- he hasn't lived up to his high draft stock yet, but the talent is there. A fresh start on a great team could be the ignition he needs -- and he will be great in rotation.

Seriously, I love this pick up!

4) Nmadi Asomugha!

DUDE!

ANOTHER GREAT LOW RISK HIGH REWARD PICK!

I actually think Asomugha could have a Career Renaissance of sorts, a la Charles Woodson, if he switches to Safety. I am *really* hoping the 49'ers give serious consideration to a position change, because he would be a perfect center fielder to complement Whitner.

5) NOT Signing Dashon Goldson

That's right, I said it -- This was TOTALLY THE RIGHT MOVE.

8M a year? Seriously?

Look, Goldson was a good player. And a great hitter.

But 8M a year?

He was also a liability in coverage, and in a league that is hell bent on changing the culture of hitting, he would be a lightning rod for flags.

Frankly, the NFL is changing, so sinking 8M a year into a player best known for "big hits" is not the best way to manage a salary cap ...

I might be in the minority, but I'm not going to miss Goldson much. At all.

6) NOT Signing Ricky Jean Francois

How in the hell did he sign such a big money deal? Seriously? He was another body in a rotation at BEST.

7) NOT Signing Delanie Walker

Okay, this one hurts -- Walker was one of the most underrated players in the NFL -- but I say WAS, because he now signed a big money deal and is being fairly compensated. And realistically the 49e'rs cannot commit so much cap space to their #2 TE. So for that reason alone, it was the right move for the team. But yes, this one hurts.

Phil Dawson

HOOK EM!

It all comes full circle. Many moons ago, I wanted the 49'ers to draft Dawson. All he has become is one of the most consistent kickers in NFL history. I have 100% confidence in this former Longhorn to finish his career with the same clutch and accuracy.

9) Trading Alex Smith to the Chiefs

I'm not going to rehash my feelings about Alex Smith, only to say that this was the right move for both parties. The extra 2nd rounder(s) is/are incredible, and Alex Smith is going to a team with a good coach with a lot of talent. I think Smith will do well in Kansas City, and I'll be rooting for the Chiefs.

All in all, it's kind of hard to imagine an off-season going better than it has! Holy Smokes, this is a great time to be a 9'er fan!
