Kevin,

The problem with that particular trade scenario is the absence of a consensus about the top three or four picks in this year's draft. If there were three distinctly superior players out there, and one of them fit the 49ers' plans, I'd go for it in a flash.

As it is, I still think the 49ers are better positioned than any other team to trade into that #3 spot that Oakland currently owns. And Oakland are reportedly the most desperate of the teams at the top of the draft to trade down. That being so, I would guess the 49ers could obtain Oakland's pick for the #31, the #61 and the #131. That would still leave the 49ers with a pick at the top of the second round, two picks in the third and all those picks in every round after that.

So who would be worth moving up to #3 for. My choice would be Eric Fisher, OT, Central Michigan. An absolute beast of a man with the best footwork and overall technical soundness I've seen in a lineman in a long, long time.. It might upset fans who are beginning to focus on WR Cordarrelle Patterson as the first 49ers pick, but I wouldn't be one of them.

Joe Staley has been very good for the team for a number of years now, but maybe it's time to see if we can add a player to might ultimately be better at that position. Oh and that's not a random comparison. If you go look at his Senior Bowl highlights, you'll hear the commentator say that he reminds him of Joe Staley, only better.

Of course, the Raiders might well decide that Fisher is exactly the kind of player they want to start rebuilding around, which would render all this speculation so much lint in the dryer drum...
