Re Mathieu: sure, he's a %!@+@%@+%, but let's look at Scouts Inc.'s evaluation of him. They rate him as a 65, which means:
60-69 Good Prospect
This player is a good starter that will give a solid effort week in and week out, but he is overmatched versus the better players in the nation. His weaknesses will be exposed against top competition. He is usually a prospect that is missing something from his game. For example, he has the size and skills to be an outstanding prospect, but lacks the speed. He will usually rate in the top half of the players at his position and is considered a middle round draft choice.

Here is their specific evaluation.

A few notes: "On cover skills (they give him a 3, with 1 best, 5 worst): Backpedal is a mess. Gets too high, loses balance and gets feet crossed up at times. . . . Better in zone coverage than in man-to-man. Frequently in trail position and can struggle to get head turned around in time to locate the ball."

Compare him to Blidi Wreh-wilson, rated an 89, and who is projected as late 1st, early 2nd: "A long, fluid and rangy defender outside the hashes. Displays very good balance and fluidity for a bigger corner. Can drop his weight, flip hips and transition smoothly making a 180 degree turn. Will be best suited as a press corner at the next level. Shows very good technique in this area. Uses long arms to disrupt receivers release, maintains balance and can mirror receivers with his length from trail technique."

And he has no baggage concerns.

Bottom line: even without the baggage, Mathieu is not worth more than a 4th, a 3rd if kick returning is a big part of the selection.
