Kevin, re the need v. best player issue. I don't think this draft has the superstar power other drafts have had, so I don't know about trading way up for anyone (3 picks for Sheldon Richardson? I would blow a gasket). If there is one player who would be best for our needs plus a top player it would be Dee Milliner, but I don't think we should trade the farm to move up to the top 5. As to Allen, I think it comes down to how the draft falls. I would not be averse to trading up into the mid-20s to get him if he is going to be that good. Part of the problem we have long term is that Boldin has a 1-year deal (and is old) and Crab will have to be re-signed (or franchised--still big money) in a year. If we had only seen more of Jenkins last year to get a sense of things. I agree completely with the BW philosophy of getting replacements before they are completely necessary. And I think Justin's replacement is a top priority. And that's why I have mentioned Lacy as Frank's replacement. From what I have read, I would not draft a safety before mid-2nd. There isn't an Eric Berry or Ed Reed in this draft. I probably would not trade up for a corner. There seems to be a logjam of corners of roughly the same ability, and one or two may be available when we draft. Ditto DLs to replace Justin. I have seen mocks that have Jesse Williams going late 2nd.

My take is that our needs are and actions should be:
CB: don't trade up more than a few spots or trade up in 2nd
DL: on't trade up more than a few spots or trade up in 2nd
FS: wait until 2nd round, either with our 2nd pick in that round or trading that pick and a later one to move into the mid-2nd

Luxuries:
WR: maybe trade up if the top guy (Allen or Tavon Austin) falls into the 20s
RB: maybe trade up if the top guy (Lacy) falls into the 20s

We also have a long-term need at center. That's why I would take Barrett Jones in the late 2nd or 3rd.

To me, this is a draft where being patient is in some ways easier. It is always advisable, but this year there seems to be no real reason to jump unless there is an unexpected drop of some kind. (Like, if Milliner dropped into the teens I might consider a big move-up.) Allen isn't a Larry Fitzgerald or Calvin Johnson talent to move up 20 spots for. Lacy is not a Trent Richardson (and is projected by many to be a 2nd rounder anyway). But it is a deeper draft on the defensive side than on offense, so getting a good receiver or back might require moving more than a good DL or FS would.
