Win

Which side of the argument do you fall on? Best player on the board? Or Player of greatest need?

I always go back and forth on that one. When it comes to best player on the board I'm gonna think it's Allen, whenever his name comes up. Because I think he's the best player in this draft.

But I believe our greatest needs are on the defensive side this year. Our Secondary was suspect to begin with... and now Goldson is gone. And on the Line, Justin is coming off an injury, he's gonna be turning 34 this season, and he's going into the last year of his contract. And as any Walshian will tell you... when an older player starts "breaking down", even if the injury doesn't seem career threatening at the time, it's time to look for his replacement. Sopoaga and Jean-Francois have already flown the coop.

We signed Glen Dorsey. A great college Defensive lineman... who failed to live up to his billing during his 5 year stay at K.C. I'm hopeful where Dorsey is concerned. I think he's talented, and I think being around Fangio, Tomsula, Justin and Ray will make a big difference in his play. But great defenses aren't built on hope.

Trade up to add a young receiver to a group that already includes Crabtree, Boldin, Manningham, Williams, Jenkins, Lockette, and a couple of camp hopefuls?

Or stay where we are and draft three new, talented, defensive players to fill what are starting to look (to me) like gaping holes on our defense?

I'm with you Win. I want an offense that scares the bejesus out of other teams. But I don't want it at the expense of the defense.

This is easier when the team sucks. You're just looking for a lot of good players, and you hope the majority of the guys you pick are worth keeping.

But when your roster looks really good... you start looking for stars.
