Re running back: it's the same as any position as far as building goes. If possible, you get the replacement before he is needed. Pittsburgh did that for years with linebackers. GB had it with Rodgers. SD had it with Rivers taking over for Brees. RB is a key position for H, more than it is for many coaches. We have good backups of a certain kind, but we don't have a back-up who could be the bell cow back. I like Lacy a lot, of course, and if he were to drop into the mid 2nd, to me that is a no brainer for a trade-up. We probably won't, but I think it would be a huge move for our future and present. Frank usually gets 16+ carries a game. If you dropped that to even 12, you are talking the equivalent of 3-4 games. When you consider that we expect to be in the post-season, that is huge. If you look at the numbers, Gore's carries have not gone down since Hunter arrived. What has gone down significantly is his receptions. Before Hunter, Gore was being targeted over 70 times a season (over 80 one year) as opposed to 32 and 36 the last two years. That is helpful for wear and tear, but those are not the big hits that wear a guy down.
