dtw, McShay's mock has us taking John Jenkins, DT/NT, UGA, with our first pick. He says that Jenkins can play either NT or a 3-4 DE. That's the kind of player I think we need on the DL. He would be an upgrade from Ricky Jean and maybe Soaps. He had us taking Zach Ertz with our first pick in the 2nd. I like the idea of another pass-catching TE. Ertz was very productive at Stanford (just as Kevin), and I think a mix of him with Vernon, Crab, and Boldin could be very explosive. With our second pick in the 2nd, he has us taking John Cyprien, S, Florida Int'l. Kiper has him rated ahead of Reid. I am not crazy about McShay' analysis of him, though. I like all three positions taken, and they fill needs. I look, however, at who would be available in McShay's scenario and would prefer some differences. For instance, when we take Ertz, the following players are still available: Blidi Wreh-wilson, Eddie Lacy, Jamar Taylor. However, I also know that McShay does not take potential trades into account. My feeling is that we should trade up to get someone if they begin to fall. For instance, he has Lacy going 46th to the Rams. (That would be a disaster.) I would rather trade up 16 spots to take him. There are other safeties who might be better if we traded up (though Reid has not been drafted yet in McShay's mock).

As to Mathieu, I just don't think you need to impose on team leaders unless the guy you are getting is bringing game-changing talent to the team, and I don't see that with him. I don't want an arrogant, drug-using, egotistical thug on the team. And ultimately, I think they guy is talented by not that talented.
