Jack-

Rob, I think Jesse Williams is likely to be gone by 61 (thought I'd love it if we got him there). Hankins is good, but I don't know if he can play anything but NT. I think 34 is too early for a safety. This draft is deep in safeties (and T-Mac's son is one of them!). I think we'll take a corner with one of our first two picks if we don't sign someone before the draft. There are some good corners to be had in that early 2nd range.

I agree with you about Jesse Williams not being there at pick #61.  That's why I noted in parapheses that the 49ers would trade up to get him.  Jonathan Hankins would be brought in by the 49ers to play Nose Tackle in their 3-4 scheme.  We've talked about the 3-4 a lot over the past few seasons, and how important it is to have a dominate NT to make it work.  Sopoaga had one good year at the position in 2011, but he was never the answer.  Neither was Ricky Jean.  Hankins will hopefully be the guy that finally anchors the 49er defensive line.  It has been reported that the 49ers are very interested in Eric Reid.  They need a player that can come in right away and start at the free safety position.  In order to get Reid, it looks like they'll have to take him with either the 31st or 34th pick.  Sure the team can draft a safety in later rounds, but will they be as good as Reid?  Will they be as NFL ready as Reid?  I wouldn't take a chance missing out on a guy that it looks like the 49ers are very interested in.  As far as Tim McDonalds son.  Just because he's TMacs kid doesnt mean he's going to be as good as his dad was.  McDonald played Strong Safety.  The 49ers need a free safety.

I do think that the 49ers will concentrate on the D-Line and Secondary with their early picks.  Whether it's a D-Lineman, Safety, and a Cornerback.  Or a couple of D-Linemen, and a Safety.  I do strongly believe it will be some combination of those two area's.  Might the 49ers select LSU CB Mathieu at the end of round 2?  I don't know a lot about him, but he's supposed to be very good, though he has off the field issues.

It will be interesting to see how much of a commitment the team makes with QB Pat White, if any at all.  Harbaugh and the QB coach seem to be able to bring the best out of quarterbacks.  He would be able to do some of the things that Kaepernick is able to do with the read option.  It will be one of those wait and see type things.
