Win, I think the read option will be effective but that defenses will catch up, just as they do to any scheme. It isn't a fad, just the reality of good DCs and great athletes on defense. But it will be effective. The thing is, for all the talk about Kap's speed and athleticism, both of which are outstanding, the guy is a terrific pocket passer. He had the highest completion percentage of any QB on long throws, and he was generally accurate overall. As to our WR corps, with Boldin we have the best tandem we have had since JR left. And then add Vernon to the mix, and you have something very explosive. Kyle is apparently making progress. As to Delainie, I wish he were here, but I don't think he is irreplaceable by any means. He does not have good hands (he dropped a lot of important passes), but he is a very good blocker. But a lot of blocking is scheme. One of the most impressive blocks I've seen by a 9er in years was the seal block that Kyle through to spring Alex on that keeper against the Saints. It was just brutal. And Ted Ginn did a great job of downfield blocking to help Kap on his long run against the Pack. We have, in general, a good blocking team outside of the OL. I have read some pundits speculate on whether we would take a TE with one of our first two picks. I could see that. Ertz has been mentioned. Having a quartet on the field of him, Vernon, Crab, and Boldin would be formidable indeed.
