Great pictures, Michael and Dave!

Since I was a kid and used to wander off and get lost in the forest near my home, I've loved being out in wilderness, especially deserts. I spent a lot of time camping all over the Australian outback, and was lucky enough to hit the Olgas right after the first rainfall in 12 years. I have some really neat photos of that time that I should upload one of these days. Great memories of the deserts in Rajasthan and northern Kenya too. The thing that saddens me most about living in New York City is knowing that the Milky Way and a host of other astounding and awe-inducing entities are up there in the night sky but hidden by light pollution. I have a really nice high-powered telescope that I hardly ever set up because there is so little to see from where I live. Last time was for the transit of Venus last year, which was only visible for a few minutes between passing clouds. Two of my most indelible memories are of the southern night sky above the outback and the northern night sky at the top of Saskatchewan.
