Kevin,

Yes, the Earl Campbell who is in a wheelchair from completely destroying his kneesnot because he's paralyzed from head contact. They should probably come up with a rule that doesn't allow any touching of any players' knees at any time during the game, just to make sure guys don't wind up in a wheelchair like Earl. Or maybe just take away padded pants all together and ban any tackling below the abdominal area. Upper body tackles only. And make the rule as detailed as possible, just to create more interpretation. At least then we could stop all the Manningham-type contact ACL injuries.

Every year, more and more difficult-to-enforce rules are being injected into the game so the NFL can create the perception that it's really trying to look out for players' well-being(and save itself from lawsuits).

Jack - I didn't see that "tackle box" or the 3 yards of the LOS rule, but if those are in there, it's just more intricate discretionary rules for refs to huddle up over and get consumed with. Pretty soon, they're going to have to add more refs with more flags to every game just to keep up with all the F-ing rules. And then just imagine, we are already approaching the 3 1/2 hour mark now for games as it is. That's the norm right now, but in a couple years, we're gonna look back and say, "Remember when games were only 3 1/2 hours!?!!"  About every 3rd play is a penalty or a huddled discussion about something. Hell we can't even have immediate excitement about a touchdowns anymore because in that first 15 seconds after a TD you have to hold your breath while you pause and look around for flags!

Meanwhile, the NCAA gets it right year after year, games are a nice pleasant 3 hours, rules are consistant every year, game-changing calls in a season can be counted on one hand, and the refs are almost invisible. How do they ever get by??
