Asa, I've mentioned Lattimore numerous times over the last few months. In the 3rd or 4th he would be someone to think about. However, I recently read an article about him that had real reservations about his vision as a back even before he was injured the first time.

Canuck, I've seen Lacy now for a couple of years, and what I have seen is that he has gotten better and better. When he backed up Trent Richardson he did not impress the way that Richardson did when he was a back-up. But this year, Lacy really took off. And he put up big numbers against big-time teams. 9 ypc against Georgia for instance. 7.5 against LSU. 1,300 yards and 17 touchdowns, and that's with sharing the load with T. J. Yeldon. And that's another thing about Lacy. He understands what a running back tandem is because that's the way Saban's system works.

I understand your point completely, and I don't disagree with it philosophically. The reason I bring it up is that we have already addressed a number of our concerns. For instance, getting Boldin takes away the necessity of drafting a receiver with either of our first two picks. And also, because we have the 34th pick, trading up with our 31st is a luxury we can afford. I don't think we will need to trade up to get one of the defensive linemen who would help. Margus Hunt, Jesse Williams, and another one or two will probably be there with the 34th. Certainly one or two of the safeties will be. In fact, I am pretty certain that one of the better safeties will be available with our own pick in the 2nd. In fact, I am very much against taking a safety with either the 31st or 34th. Trade up with our own 2nd and a later pick if necessary. But Reid, Rambo, or Swearinger will be available mid-2nd. That leaves corner as the other concern. This is a very weak draft for quarterbacks and running backs, and I think taking Lacy with our first pick ought to be considered.
