Marcus Lattimore really is/was a talent. But it's not the same situation as we saw with Frank Gore.

Yup, Gore tore up the ACLs in both knees and his college career was sort of derailed. But Gore finished his surgeries and rehab and came back and played in 2003 & 2004 before being drafted in 2005. His injuries (and surgeries) once he got here were to his shoulders.

Marcus Lattimore did more than tear an ACL. He tore everything, and dislocated and screwed up the knee cap. It was pretty horrible.

It would only be the same situation as Frank's if Lattimore finished his rehab and went back to college and was able to get through all of next season. But he hasn't played a lick since the injury.

If I could get Lattimore for free... pick him up as an undrafted Free Agent, and then stash him on the practice squad for a season, I'd go for it in a minute. But as things stand now? I wouldn't like to use up a pick, a roster spot, and a piece of the salary cap on a guy who might not even be able to play football anymore.

As to the idea of trying to move up in the draft to take Eddie Lacey RB, Alabama, in the first round... I wouldn't, and I don't think the Niners would either. Lacey is probably the best RB in this draft, but I don't see him as a dynamic star. I can't see them paying the price it would take to move that far up. And if we took a RB in the first we'd almost have to cut Hunter, and probably Frank.
