I was interested to read, in the excellent article on Smith in the Chronicle, which I recommend, that Smith already had a connection to Kansas City via his charitable work on behalf of foster children. Setting aside his worth as a player, he was definitely the classiest person we had on the 49ers in the last decade.

It would be foolhardy to expect too much of a 2-14 team, but I would guess Smith must be fairly excited right about now by all the moves Dorsey and Reid are making to upgrade KC. They should do substantially better this season. When it will get really interesting is in 2014, when, if I read right, the Chiefs are scheduled to play the 49ers in their new stadium.
