Hahahaha. Yes, no question a large part of the humor in "Kitchen Stories" is about the sly revenge of the supposedly inferior culture. You see it repeated all over the place. Even a more-or-less Hollywood movie like Local Hero is predicated on the quiet triumph of the supposedly inferior Gaelic culture of the Scottish islands over that of corporate Texas oilmen. I've also seen examples that exploit domestic prejudices within countries like Russia and India.

Some critics have also pointed out that Kitchen Stories is also an implicit critique of Sweden's stance of neutrality during WWII versus Norway's active resistance to the Germans.
