Win,

Good point about Doleman and all that bringing in veterans late in their careers period the 49ers went through in the 1990's. Much of that was the Hydra shooting the dice on next season only because they thought Steve Young would retire soon. (We could make a list of all the big names, long past their prime, that came to San Francisco during that period). But mostly this is a failed strategy. The Walsh strategy was to build through the draft. Young guys can start if they're talented and coached properly. This is mostly what Harbaugh does with exceptions. I am leery of bringing in the old vet but there are some cases where it makes sense but only as the rare exception to the rule.

The FA news on ESPN is being billed as what a steal for Boldin. Torrey Smith tweets, "Boldin for a sixth? WHAT!". The Boldin deal is a very sweet one for us. And I am assuming its a one year deal?

The other FA news on ESPN is the Percy Harvin trade to Seattle. The Hawks gave up a first rounder for this one. Whereas Boldin is about 30, Harvin is 24 and signed, I believe, a six year deal that included other draft picks. Adrian Petersen tweets, "The best all around player I ever seen or you'll ever see! Goes to Seattle! I feel like I just got kicked in the stomach. Several times!!!". The word on Harvin is you can put him on the line or in the backfield. Russell Wilson sounds happy as can be. This is dangerous.

I almost think Seattle got the better deal but gave up alot more for it. The Seahawks are our biggest challenge next year. All we can hope for is a split in divisional games and that we end up with a high playoff seed. That is our biggest obstacle in getting back to the Super Bowl. We need a pass rush and a secondary to slow down their offense.

We also need offense of our own and to see Crab and Boldin line up together will improve our offense greatly.
