I feel like I'm being stodgy with my draft choices... but I think this has to be a defensive heavy draft for us... and I don't see us going after anyone overly flashy this year.

I like Jesse Williams from Alabama because he can play both DE and DT at a very high level. He's preternaturally strong, and a lot faster than is reasonable for a guy of his size. And that makes him a fit for a defense that features guys like Justin Smith and Ray McDonald. Guys who can move from the inside to the outside and still be effective. (Remember, the guys mainly responsible for putting pressure on the QB are our OLBs. Not our D-Linemen. Unless of course we're in a four man line in the nickle.)

Another guy who I think fits the bill is Datone Jones from UCLA. He's 6'4" 283, and he shifts back and forth between DE and DT. Heck, he's even lined up on the outisde, standing up like an OLB, to rush the passer a few times. He's powerful, even for a Division 1 D-Lineman, and he can run. (Second rounder. Maybe third. Who knows.)

Williams, a DT who can play DE in a 3-4. Jones, a DE who can play DT in a 3-4.

Margus Hunt?. If we ran the sort of defense the N.Y. Giants run... maybe. But the guy seems too light, and too tall, and too lanky to me. I'm probably falling into the cookie cutter mentality, but he seems a bad fit to my eye.

A couple of guys I really like, but they'll go way too soon for us to even bother coveting, are Sharrif Floyd Florida, and Bjoern Werner from Florida St.

I think it's just shameful that the NFL won't let the Niners just take all the good players first. Obviously the east coast bias at work.

It's also annoying to know that the Niners aren't going to jump all over any Free Agents when the gun sounds tomorrow. Annoying because I know that that's not their M.O., but I'm just dumb enough to waste my time checking the wire tomorrow to see who we got.
