Canuck,

I really believe the team should do whatever it takes to re-sign Walker. Kap has developed a great chemistry with him and he's an outstanding blocker who has helped short gains explode to long ones by his down field blocking, let alone his sixth lineman role.

Secondly, Vernon is one of the most explosive receiving tight ends in the game but has yet to really find his niche with Kap. This chemistry will develop and Vernon will become very dangerous as a receiver. I would not expect to see him become a better blocker than he is and he's not bad, just not his forte by any means. The two tight end sets with him and Walker I thought were effective. There is more that can be done with our Tight Ends and the league is certainly going that way again, especially in New England.

Third, I think we should not be drafting a tight end and concentrate on the Defensive Line, getting enough great players to rotate in and out the entire game. No more Justin Smith playing every down and then being spent or injury prone by season's end. We want these guys in quarterback killing and run stuffing mode in the fourth quarter of a conference final coming off the bench for a fresh set of downs. I also think draft picks could be used for running backs and wide receivers, no idea how to grapple with what's going on at Safety, except that our current guys are the best hitters in the league, down near the bottom for coverage.

So to answer your question I'd say 1) Keep Walker and 2) yes, Davis can become far more effective as a receiver than he's been in the Kap era, versatile Swiss Army Knife, as you say.
