Trading Alex Smith, and getting something back for him? Great move, for a number of reasons. (If the deal goes through.)

Getting Darrell Revis from the Jets? I'm not really sure right now. I do believe we have to improve our defensive secondary. I do know Revis has been an outstanding CB for the Jets. If he's healthy, and can play the way he used to, he'd make our secondary better. And better is always good.

But Revis is rehabbing from a torn ACL... and not everyone recovers the way Adrian Peterson did. It's usually in the second season, after surgery, that the player comes back, if he comes back.

Which brings us to the money question. Do we want to rent Revis for his rehab year? Do we want to give up a bucket full of our draft picks to get a guy who might or might not be able to play during the final year of his contract? And would the Niner front office (this front office, not Carmen's) be willing to break the bank to keep him after this upcoming year?

Honestly I don't know. I don't know the answers to any of the questions that keep popping up in my head whenever I start wondering about Revis.

The thing I do think I know is: This draft class is reputed to be very very good when it comes to Defensive Linemen. And we are too thin along the defensive line. We have two guys we depend on. Justin Smith and Ray McDonald. And Justin Smith is getting old, coming off an injury, and entering the final year of his contract. The rest of our linemen are undrafted free agents, and two Journeymen who are about to enter free agency.

To my way of thinking, this draft has exactly what we need, and we should focus on D-Linemen, and consider ourselves very lucky.
