Trading Alex Smith frees up between 7.5 and 9 million (!!!) in cap money and gives us the number 34 (!!!) pick this April. Plus a pick in 2014. I don't know why Cassell was a bust in KC. I also don't think acquiring Alex is going to help them. Alex did poorly on crappy 49er teams and did not do well until Harbaugh came along. He goes back to a crappy team and he goes back to being SOSA Alex. I don't want to disrespect the man but I never thought much of him and I'm glad we made that incredible transition to Kap, glad that we save millions in salary cap and glad we get the #34 pick. I wonder who it's going to be? If that gives us a Super Bowl game changer of a player who can start in sept I am going to toast Alex Smith. Nice guy. Not sorry to see him go. Actually, the maudlin attachment to him these past 8 years (!!!) kind of sickened me. Now he follows Montana, Grbac and Bono in heading off to Kansas City. Clean slate. Re-tool. Ears pinned back. Paws in the dirt. SUPER BOWL!!
