Belated happy birthday, Julie. I keep forgetting that we share the same date,

Thanks for the greetings here too!

Just back from Vegas late last night and trying to get my bearings. Lots of Niner presence there in terms of caps, jackets and memorabilia.

Speaking of .... I always enjoy checking out the high end collector stores there. Way too expensive to buy from, but fun to look at. The Art of Music at Mirage, Antiquities and Field of Dreams at Caeser's Palace, where Leon Spinks sat by his lonely self, waiting for people to spend $200. For the 'full experience' of an autographed boxing glove, talk and picture with the ex champ. Pete Rose was also sitting at a table somewhere else waiting for hundred buck suckers to have their picture taken and a signed baseball. Some guy from Edmonton was telling him that 'he'll get into the Hall of Fame yet." Sure.

If you have a spare $10,000 you can pick up George Harrison's sunglasses. $8,000 will get you Jim Morrison's belt. $14,500 buys a big matted and framed display of all four Beatle autographs. $8,000 for a Mantle and Maris signed baseball in a framed display. Lots of Joe Montana stuff and multi-Niner signed helmets.mostly ranging from the high hundreds to the mid one digit thousands. Really, unless money is not a consideration you overpay for a lot of things in these places. And so much of the appeal is in the framing and matting. Impeccable well done displays that really dramatize the visual appeal. Beautiful stuff, but damned expensive.

Another interesting place is the Scores sports exhibit at the Luxor. Great stuff from all sports, including a number of Niner signed uniforms and video clips. Also an interesting display of Leigh Steinberg documents, including Steve Young contracts and exchanges between the USFL and NFL. But I never expected to be going through these interactive sports challenges on my birthday! They have a long jump test where my best was about half of what Calvin Johnson did. Surprisingly, Andrew Luck had a massive long jump mark. My peripheral vision/hand eye co-ordination isn't close to NFL standards, and my hockey stick handling agility is not quick or slick. But age adjusted I guess the results were semi-respectable in the sense that I was at least able to go through the procedures without injuring myself!

Also saw some good shows. Vegas! The Show at Planet Hollywood was a jam packed tribute to the golden days of Vegas entertainment with a very talented cast. http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zm8GLRadjl8&feature=relmfu Love at the Mirage was as good as it was said to be.

Again, thanks for the birthday messages. Watching some of the linemen combines stuff now and getting my head around to the draft. According to a piece of paper I picked up from MGM pro sports futures, the Niners are 9/2 odds to win the Superbowl, NFC favorite to get back in and face Denver, who are 6/1 odds to win it. So... Should be a good year.
