Kevin, do you think the issue is a Free Safety? What about this? First, I think Whitner is a much bigger liability in coverage. He is great against the run, but he provides almost no help over the top. So what about moving Goldson to Strong Safety? Goldson hits as big as anyone, plays great against the run, and as a Strong Safety would be excellent in coverage. Then either sign or draft a true(r) Free Safety who can be good against the run but provide the better deep help.

Just thinking out loud.

But I would re-sign Goldson. He is clearly a very good player, and getting anyone near his level would likely cost nearly as much money. What I would like to do is spend one of our later picks (one of the 5th rounders, for instance) on Robert Lester, FS out of Alabama. He is solid against the run and has been a ball hawk in the past. Now, he would not displace either Whitner or Goldson, but right now we have zero depth at safety, and Lester would provide that, plus give us solid ST play.
