I think keeping Gore more than next year is bad for the team. We need a younger replacement for Gore and we need to get him in place before the end of next year. Gore may be on the team two years tops, but his carries are going to drop. We all love Frank but to compete in this league, even in this division, we need the top notch best player at all the key skill positions, including Quarterback, which is why Harbaugh went with Kaepernick. I would say the same thing about wide receiver that we have to have the best of class at that position as well. Gore is up there with the best now but his performance is set to drop off. He is in excellent shape and if you hear him tell it he is in better shape, and more injury free now than at any time in his career. But nobody can fight time and neither can this team. We need the best "Tres Amigos" in the league, that being QB, RB and WR. An example of this is back in 1994 with Young, Watters and Rice or Aikman, Smith and Irving. There's no way around this fact or the fact that age is catching up Gore. It was tough for Alex Smith, who in my opinion was an average performer, completely non competitive with the best Quarterbacks in the NFC, and it will be tough for Gore, who is one of the best running backs in the NFC. If we think like Walsh then we think re-toolinging and moving the veterans out at or a little before their prime. Gore is probably a little past his prime even though he's playing the best football of his career, on one of the best teams in the league.
