When it comes to FAs, though, cap space is the first thing to take into account. Right now we are barely over or barely under, depending on your source. When Alex is traded/released we will get a lot of money freed up. However, we have Goldson to sign (and unless you want the draft thrown way out of whack, you have to re-sign him), as well as Walker. Soaps is also an FA. We should try to re-work Justin's contract, which counts 7.5 against the cap (and he is an FA in 2014 anyway, so work out an extension to get a couple years), and Vernon, who counts just over 6. Releasing Akers would get us 3. Carlos Rogers counts 5.5, but since he just signed his deal last year, I doubt he'd want to renegotiate, and we can't afford to release him. Whitner, who will be an FA in 2014, will count just under 4. He is someone whom it would be good to extend a couple years. The one guy I would really go after to extend is Crabtree. He is a free agent in a year or so because he has a voidable year. He will get more and more expensive every year, so to me you make the deal now and structure it in a way so that you free up some of the 4.5 he will count this year.

So the money is probably there to sign some people, but I don't know how much. Here are some of the top receivers:
Dwayne Bowe
Mike Wallace
Danny Amendola
Greg Jennings
Jennings is coming off an injury and is older. Bowe isn't going anywhere (and signing him would make signing Crabtree more difficult down the road) I would bet getting Amendola would be tough because the Rams love him. If he makes it to FA it would be interesting to see if we could land him. He is a very good slot receiver, and it would hurt a division rival at the same time.
