Michael, that is a question that I personally cannot or will not respond to now, owing to the lingering toxicity of the position I took on the Smith-Kaepernick debate. Perhaps in a couple of months, after Smith has been signed by some other team, we can revisit this issue and I'll chip in my five cents.

I will say, though, that there were several earlier glitches that were Kaepernick's fault, including the very first play. The instant it happened I wondered to myself whether Smith would not have noticed the slot receiver covering the tight end before the snap and motioned him back. I would bet yes, but I don't want to press the point because it invites the wrong sort of "sour grapes" argument.
