Culliver's theatrical apology:

"The derogatory comments I made yesterday were a reflection of thoughts in my head, but they are not how I feel. It has taken me seeing them in print to realize that they are hurtful and ugly. Those discriminating feelings are truly not in my heart. Further, I apologize to those who I have hurt and offended, and I pledge to learn and grow from this experience.”

First, I hope a Lawyer didn't help him prepare that statement. It would make me lose faith in the Law Schools of America.

Second, to the idea that Culliver will still be with the Niners in 2 years. The thing you have to understand is that the Bay Area is as reactionary, as hidebound, in it's views as the most conservative of small towns in the midwest or the deep south are in theirs. It's just a matter of perspective.

Culliver's one chance to remain a Niner, is to remain... unimportant. Semi invisible. Were he a bigger star you'd already be able to hear the war drums beating all the way to New York.
