Something one of the local media guys said... that I kind of like.

He posed the question: What if Moss made the outrageous I'm the greatest receiver in the history of the game... comment to take the media attention, and pressure, off Colin Kaepernick?

It's interesting. I don't know if I buy it. I don't think Moss is that clever. But I like it. Because, at least for a while, it has taken the pressure off Kaepernick. At least for a while he didn't have everyone and their brother coming up to him and asking if he was feeling the pressure yet, or asking him how he felt about stealing poor sweet Alex's job.

Moss, intentionally or not, took the target off Kaepernick's forehead, and put it on himself. Good for you Randy.

Another media construct: The idea is floating around that the Niners might try to grab Revis from the Jets by trading Alex Smith, and maybe throwing in a second round draft pick. And that's something I'd be pretty fired up about. We're losing Smith anyway, so no harm there. And if Revis can come back quickly from his knee injury we suddenly turn the weakest part of our defense into a real strength. And heck with that second rounder, because we probably would have gone after another corner with that pick anyway. Better a dinged up "best in the game at his position", than a "prospect".

Re: WRs. Remember, Manningham will still be under contract next season, and before he got hurt he was developing the same solid connection with Kaepernick that Crabtree has. Go back and take a look at those early Kaepernick games. Manningham was emerging as his "favorite" target. And Williams will be back too. I don't see us bending over backwards to pick up another receiver unless someone really outstanding drops into our laps.

My off season pipe dream right now? Offer the Vikings a few of our late round picks for Toby Gerhart. Yup, I still want a big guy who can get through the first level and knock the opposition's secondary men loopy.
