What a sad spell fo you, Dave. Hang in there and cherish the memories.

Sometimes the immediacy and finality of the Internet can hit you hard. I was thumbing through a Habs yearbook of the mid eighties and saw that an old friend worked for them as a statistician back then. I had totally forgotten about it. We went to university at the same time and he covered the college hockey games for the school paper. We had many talks on bus and train rides. A sports fount of knowledge. He later worked in the NHL head office, radio, TV and newspapers. One of those people who you know when you're in school and keep an eye on if they have a public profile or are active in the media. As the years have gone on we moved to different cities and I lost even minimal connection. But tonight on flipping through that book I decided to Google him. Something I never had thought about before. Unfortunately I saw that he has passed away a year or so ago. My instant thought was about what a nice fun guy he was. Screw mortality!

Here's a little bio.

And on a more upbeat note, happy birthday, Klaus.

I watched the replay of the Sunday game on the NFL Network. So much easier on the nerves! I have to say that Ryan's injury really was big moment. He couldn't get full extension or strength and it made a difference. Especially with the impotent Hail Mary play. But that's just part of the equation in any game. You never know if an injury will come at a critical time.
