Re Smith: It's all about the wording of the contract. Who has the option this off season? The Player or the Team, or both?

I remember Maiocco saying, when Alex resigned, that there were options built into it for both sides... after each of the three seasons he signed for.

If it's just Alex who has the option... he can just leave. If the team has the option, they can trade hm. We'll find out pretty soon after the end of the season.

But there are two things I'm pretty sure of. Alex will go somewhere else. And the team will try to get some compensation. And if that means picking up his option... they'll do it. Mostly because it's a win win for the team. If they pick up the option and pay him his 7 million, if nothing else, we have an experienced back up QB on the roster. But here's the thing... if another team is interested... Alex being signed to a 7 million dollar deal would not deter them. If the Jags, or the Jets, or the Cards want him... that's a lot less money than they'd have to pay to some free agent.

I expect this is going to be pretty amicable, on Alex's part, and the part of the team.
