On the Patriots' second drive of their AFC divisional matchup against the Houston Texans, Gronkowski appeared to aggravate his left forearm injury on a deep pass from Tom Brady. He left the game and did not return. Gronkowski had a step on defensive lineman Antonio Smith on the play and made the catch along the sideline but was falling out of bounds for an incomplete pass. The injury occurred when he landed. Gronkowski broke his left forearm in Week 10 against Indianapolis. Coming into the season, the Patriots had hoped to take advantage of their outstanding pair of young tight ends, Aaron Hernandez and Gronkowski. But Hernandez struggled with a variety of injuries throughout the season. Coupled with Gronkowski’s injury, the two were only on the field together in five games this season, including Gronkowski’s return game in the season finale.
