Akers / Cundiff Akers / Cundiff.

As far as I know both are still on the roster, and will be on Saturday night.

How difficult it is to assume that Harbaugh will wait to see how Akers is kicking the ball in warm-ups before the game? Last time the Niners played the announcers were talking about how poorly Akers was hitting the ball, and then in the game, his kick offs looked awful. In fact, they got worse as the game went on.

But Akers is clutch. His stats inside the 40 are still good, and he hasn't missed a point after this year.

I expect that if Akers is having trouble kicking deep in warm ups, Harbaugh will put Cundiff on the active 43 and let him do the distance kicking. Then allow Akers to do the short stuff.

It's anything but an unprecedented move. And there'll be time before kick off to list Cundiff as active or not.

Win

Like you, I enjoy listening to Steve Young when he talks football. He's a very bright guy. But I will give you two short notes. Steve Young ws the driving force behind the Niners hiring Marc Trestman as our OC back in the day. And he was his most loyal defender when everyone wanted to run the guy out of town on a rail.

And it should also be mentioned that Steve Young does a weekly radio show locally, and he has spent years ripping Alex Smith. He ripped the whole offense, but his main whipping boy was always Smith. Last year he eased up a bit, but he still wasn't much of a Smith fan. In fact... he only became what might be called a "Smith Fan" once Smith was benched. And I've noticed that that's been pretty much the same reaction all the media/ex/QBs have had. Mustn't bench the QB. No no no.

My only point here is that every time you mention Young, in your defense of Smith, I get a chuckle, remembering all the awful things he's said about him.

Just for the record... Rod Woodson Major Smith defender. Bill Romanowski Major Smith hater. (They do a weekly show here as well, and always end up barking at one another over the QB switch.)

Ronnie Lott? They (the Niners) own these guys (the Packers), and they know it. It'll be a massacre.
