Baalke and Fangio.

Since I've been thinking about this I took another look at the way the guys on the roster were used... and who the guys on the roster were.

First you have two of our most promising Defensive linemen. Guys who might actually have been able to play and give the starters some rest during games. Will Tukuafu and DeMarcus Dobbs. Trouble was... they spent most of their time on the field, and in meetings... as Offensive players. I'm not saying these two were good enough to be starters, but of the guys we had on our bench... they seemed to be the best defensive line subs we had. And though I didn't see why it would turn into a problem when they first started splitting time... it's pretty obvious that it has turned into a problem. Dobbs is on IR, and Tukuafu hasn't gotten the time, or the reps on defense needed to improve his game.

Then the two guys we've been nursing along on the P.S. Guys who have been activated and did get to play some at the end of the season. Ian Williams & Tony Jerod-Eddie. So far neither have shown half the promise that Tukuafu or Dobs have. So why are they still on the team?

And in terms of rotating OLBs to give Aldon and Ahmed a break... Unfortunately Parys Harelson tore a triceps tendon and was lost for the season. But Clark Haggans has been available since he came off suspension after game 3 or 4. Why not rotate him in there? I mean, he's 34 or 35... but he's always been a good player, and he could certainly stand up to playing a series or two in each game.

I don't like to criticize Fangio because he's a heck of a defensive coach, and he's done wonders for our defense over the last two seasons. But these are the choices he's made. Letting his best back ups play on offense. Ignoring the talent he has on his bench at LB. And not demanding something better than "developmental players" as his back-up linemen.

Seems silly to say... but I think Fangio has to start standing up for himself and his defense.
