I understand the concept of the two-kicker--one for short range, one for long and kick offs (it's used at Alabama)--but Cundiff was 1-8 from long range when he was cut, so I see no reason why he would be the long-range option if H wanted to go that route. Akers has not kicked a field goal at any point this year that was short. Leg strength is not his issue. Direction is. He's only 7 of 13 from 40-49. That is direction, and ultimately a 40-yarder should be pretty much automatic in the NFL. That means you got it to the 23 yard line. But he's missing those. He's 2 of 6 from 50+. He's missed three kicks inside 40. Leg strength is not the problem. Now, as far as getting a kick off specialist in, fine. But that would not be Cundiff, who has only made 4 50+ FGs in his whole career. I would think it would be the other way around. Have Cundiff kick the shorter stuff and then Akers if it's down town.
