As I said, if Akers isn't able to do his job anymore... cut him. It's the NFL. That's what happens to guys who can't do their job anymore. That's the deal they sign on for.

But the name calling, especially twisting his name into something of an insult seems petty and childish to me. And Jeez-oh! In this case it 's just flat wrong. Akers sure wasn't a "Fake" last year. And he wasn't a "Fake" when he hit that 63 yarder for us this season and tied the all time record.

I don't think I'm defending him so much as I'm trying to defend this page. I like to think of this page as a place where the nasty, the thoughtless, and the childish is kept to a minimum.

If a guy stinks he stinks. Think it, say it, shout it, type it.

As to Akers being on the active roster along with Cundiff on game day... it wouldn't surprise me a bit. My guess is Harbaugh has decided to use Cundiff for kick-offs, and any desperation long field goals that Akers simply can't make right now. And we saw in the last game that he can't kick the ball long. His kick-offs in the second half were all line drives that ended up in the return man's arms on the 5 or 10 yard line. And that's not what Harbaugh is looking for. He wants those kicks sent out of the back of the End Zone. (Saves wear and tear on the coverage teams.)

If Akers improves with rest... I wouldn't be shocked to see Harbaugh use him for points after, and any field goal inside the 35. But for kicks that need a bigger leg... I think Cundiff will be the guy.

Jack,

I really haven't given much if any thought to the draft. When my head strays to next year's roster, I seem to be more focused on veteran free agents right now.

Re: the draft. I tend to try to figure out which guys Harbaugh might be looking at. See... I think he set up something of a template when he was coaching in college.

We know he has a pretty good eye for QBs. He wants fast, mobile guys with big arms. Those are the guys he sought out when he was recruiting. (Even before we drafted him, I thought of Colin Kaepernick as Josh Johnson 2.0)

As to offensive linemen... he always looked for big, tough, physical guys first. Bobb McKittrick (and these days Shannahan in Denver, and now in Washington) looked for quicker, more athletic linemen. Size and power came second to quickness. Solari, who learned how to coach O-Linemen from McKittrick... rejected that idea when he got to KC. He wanted huge bruisers, with some athletic ability. Solari and Harbaugh seem a good match when it comes to player evaluation for the O-Line. They like the same sort of guy.

Runnng backs? Harbaugh likes to run the Power game. And to do that, you need a Power Runner. He has LaMichael James and hopefully Kendall Hunter for the quick change up. But I don't know how much longer he can rely on Frank to be his power guy. It's just not working very well lately.

As to Tight Ends... Harbaugh is the guy who went out and recruited a whole truck load of fast, 6'6" to 6'8" receiving Tight Ends. Those are the mid range targets he wants for his QBs.

Walsh was obsessed with finding really tall WRs.

Harbaugh's Receivers? I don't know that Harbaugh has a preference set in stone yet. I know he wants some real speed on the outside. But I haven't seen him develop a top flight deep threat yet. Guys who act as a diversion... yes. But a bone-fide deep threat... I don't know if he's ever found the guy he wants.

Maybe Jenkins is that guy. Maybe Ricardo Lockette, the kid on the Practice Squad. They both have the speed. But as of now, neither of them has proved a thing to Harbaugh.
