Mo, that's a totally different scenario. Every team has a back-up QB talking to the starter all throughout the game. Every other position has back-ups. Those players are psychologically used to it, don't even think about it. Kickers have no experience with that. A position that is so affected by psychology, you don't want to put an added distraction into the mix. And what do you tell the back-up? Do both of them start warming up when a drive progresses? It would be too much and would take away one more regular player. The only time you have two kickers is when one is a kick off specialist who knows that is his job unless there is an injury. And the FG kicker knows what his job is. It is set up in advance so there is no confusion on the field.
