I'd like to see more 'foot' in football and make the special teams more important. It would break up some of the dull methodical plodding predictable routines of game management. And the perfect way to add some more pizazz and excitement would be to borrow from the CFL! NFL talent, speed and high level skill set on a more challenging field, with kicking a bit more of a factor.

How so? Here are some CFL features.

A longer field of play by ten yards, requiring more work and strategy to extend drives.

And more significantly, a much larger end zone. Twenty five yards deep. Imagine the options for red zone strategy, and the added value of good hands and route running receivers? And a strong armed qb?

And width of the field. a field ten yards wider would open up a whole new importance for speedy runners and mobile qb's. and new pages of the playbook.

Kicking. One point for missed field goals. A missed field goal has to be run out of the endzone or a point is conceded. Adds another layer to the kicking and return game and more drama for fans. Returns can be some of the most exciting plays of a game. And the one point factor would create all kinds of different dynamics and strategy for scoring. on many occasions late in games, a missed field goal in the CFL has been caught in the endzone and kicked back onto the regular field to prevent giving up that point. And at times it has been kicked back out of the endzone as part of the continuity of the play.

The roots of the sport featured kicking more prominently. But offense was primitive and low scoring. But in the modern highly evolved game more kicking related dynamics would enhance the overall challenge of coaching and playing. And on a bigger, wider field, the excitement would be greater.

And another element could be reducing the forty second clock to twenty five like in the CFL. A league like the Oregon Ducks play wouldn't be uninteresting! Especially with CFL wrinkles thrown in.
