Kevin, GH was better in college. Beanie's numbers were inflated. Superior OLs at Ohio State against weak competition. In 2009 the Cards went to the playoffs. The year before that, the Super Bowl. And this year, his numbers in their 4 wins were not even 3 ypc. As point of comparison, on our 2-14 team in 2004 Kevan Barlow averaged over 3. In 2005, another terrible team, Frank averaged close to 5. Or this year, on a 2-14 team, Jamaal Charles rushed for over 1,000. So, sure, the OL is critical to a running back's success, but the really good backs are still productive. Wells couldn't beat out LaRod Stephens-Howling. This is not a great back. He has at best been pretty good, and at worst he has completely sucked. And the latter has been more frequent than the former. And like I said, the guy is a malcontent. A player who tells his team his performance is for other teams, not his own, is not someone you want on your team. It just says, "I will complain and cause a problem in the locker room if things go badly." There are other players who can pound the ball. For instance, and I know he isn't available but you love him, look at Toby Gerhardt. You have a guy who was very successful in college and is a pounder. Now, compare his attitude. Can you imagine Gerhardt saying something like that if he played for a losing team?

Guys who may be available this year: Shonn Greene, Peyton Hillis, Rashard Mendenhall. All would be better. But I really see no reason to think we couldn't draft someone at least as good as Wells. And who would be a lot cheaper and hungrier.
