Rob,

If Green Bay loses in Minnesota their final won loss record is 11-5. If we win at home then we end up at 11-4-1. In that scenario alone we grab the 2nd seed.

If Seattle wins at home against the Rams then they end up at 11-5. They will stay at the 5th seed. Whoever wins the NFC East grabs the 4th seed regardless of what Seattle does.

So everything hinges on the 49ers beating the Cardinals at home which should be a cake walk as they essentially have no good quarterbacks and we have two. If we win, nothing Seattle does will affect our seeding going forward.

Its only if Green Bay loses do we re-take the 2nd seed.

I think Minnesota can beat Green Bay at home. They just had that hard fought battle on Dec 2 where GB finally took over the NFC North but I think the Vikings are looking for payback and they will be at home in their loud stadium. They also have the extra incentive that if they lose and Chicago wins then they get pushed out of the playoffs altogether.

It would be a huge boon for us if the Vikings get into the playoffs because that means they had to beat Green Bay to do so and we grab the 2nd seed with a win over the hapless Cardinals at home.

No chance that Seattle loses to the Rams in that crazy stadium of theirs where they are undefeated but all we have to do is win and they stay at the 5th seed and we keep the 3rd. However, if Seattle should fall to the 6th seed and we remain at the 3rd seed then we host them the following week which would be nice to get payback against them at home, but not so nice if they happen to have our number.

If Seattle wins and we lose then we just switch places, Seattle goes to 3rd seed and we fall to 5th which means we'd fly to the NFC East victors building the following week. Throw in a Green Bay loss and in that scenario Seattle grabs the 2nd seed. So if we lose then we'd be hoping for a Green Bay win. If we win we are hoping for a Green Bay loss.

But all we have to do is win to keep the 3rd seed, with the extra bonus of the Vikings beating the Packers we grab the second seed.

So GO NINERS and GO VIKINGS!
