With Anthony Davis I'm not talking about penalties. I'm talking about quality of play... and I'm just not seeing it. The mistakes, especially lately, have been too glaring. He's finishing up his third year, and though there has been improvement... I don't think it's enough.

Re: Staley... that's the hard part. I like Joe Staley and I like the way he plays the game. But Jake Long is better. He's simply better suited for the system we run. As for moving Staley to Right Tackle... I sure wouldn't. Staley isn't a power puncher. He's a fast, athletic, finesse lineman. I'd like to see Alex Boone moved out to the Right Tackle spot. Boone has been a tackle all his playing life. He has the size, and length, you want at tackle. And he's proved this year that he is a player on the NFL level.

And yup, that means looking at someone to take Boone's place at Guard.

Heck, in this little Christmas fantasy of mine, I've even been looking around for someone to replace Goodwin. Lately his age and his lack of power have begun to show. He's not really a liability (yet). But he's not a plus either.

As to George's D-Lines compared to our line now. George's lines were deeper, his second and third string linemen were better players than we have in the back up roles now. And he played them. He set up a regular line rotation, and though he had his starters... the second and third stringers came in for 3 or 4 series every week. He did not want his line wearing down. And if there was an injury the replacement player didn't have to struggle to find his feet.
